About ALDI & Our Culture

The ALDI Assistant Store Manager is the person the Store Manager relies on to keep the store running to standard on every shift they are not personally on the floor — a genuine second-in-command role with real people-management, inventory, and profitability responsibility. Because ALDI stores run with a lean staffing model, the ASM role carries a broader scope of ownership than an assistant manager position at a typical big-box retailer. If you are searching for assistant store manager jobs near me in grocery retail that offer a real salary, genuine P&L exposure, and a defined runway to a Store Manager position within a year or two of strong performance, the ALDI ASM role is the most accelerated path into full retail leadership we offer.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"As an ALDI Assistant Store Manager I am not shadowing anyone — I am running the store on my shifts, managing the schedule, coaching associates through performance conversations, and reviewing our shrink and labor numbers with the Store Manager every week. ALDI gave me P&L visibility faster than any retail job I have had. My Store Manager has told me directly that I am on track for my own store within the next review cycle." - Current Assistant Store Manager, Moreno Valley, CA.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As an ALDI Assistant Store Manager, you share full operational leadership of the store with the Store Manager — managing associate scheduling and performance coaching, monitoring inventory shrink and labor cost against the store's budget, and independently running the store during your assigned shifts with complete decision-making authority.

• Associate Scheduling & Performance Coaching: Build the weekly associate schedule against projected customer traffic and labor budget targets, and conduct regular one-on-one coaching conversations with associates and shift managers — documenting performance feedback and escalating any pattern of underperformance to the formal ALDI performance improvement process.
• Inventory Shrink & Cost Control: Review the store's weekly shrink report against the district target, investigating any category showing an unexplained variance, and manage ordering and markdown decisions on perishable inventory to minimize waste while keeping shelves adequately stocked for customer demand.
• Independent Shift Ownership: Assume full operational authority over the store during assigned shifts in the Store Manager's absence — making staffing, customer service, and vendor coordination decisions independently, and briefing the Store Manager on any significant issue at the start of their next shift.

Benefits & Perks

ALDI Assistant Store Managers receive a competitive salary, a 401(k) with company match, paid time off, and full medical, dental, and vision benefits. The role is ALDI's formally recognized final step before Store Manager, with high-performing ASMs typically advancing to their own store within 12 to 24 months.
